Bushwalking Level 1 – 2nd Feb

Bushwalking Level 1 (Controlled Environment) qualifications

  • When – Saturday 2nd February 2019
  • Time – 9am start, approximate finish by 4pm
  • Where – Heathcote Scout Camp, Freeman Road Heathcote
  • Open to all South Metropolitan Region Leaders
  •  **  You must have some bushwalking experience and a logbook
  •  **  If you have no experience, you will need to do a full Bushwalking Course

PRE-REQUISITIES

* E-Learning – Level 1 Common Core

  • In Scout Central, in e-learning, under heading CURRICULUMS – ADVENTUROUS ACTIVITIES TRAINING
  • You MUST bring the Certificates of Completion to the course, or you will be turned away

* Log Book

  • Bring your current bushwalking log book – click for a Sample Logbook

BRING ON THE DAY

  • Light backpack – packed for a Day Walk – hat, sunscreen, water, snacks, raincoat, first aid kit etc
  • Certificates of completion for Level 1 Common Core
  • Bushwalking Logbook
  • Pens, pencil, rubber
  • Compass if you have one
  • All snacks and lunch to be self-catered – we will provide tea/coffee/water
  • Uniform not required

WHAT WILL HAPPEN ON THE DAY

  • Relevant workbooks will be provided
  • As a group we will work through the workbook
  • Going on a hike up to 3 hours in surrounding National Park – enough for demonstration/examination of skills
  • Anticipated end of day by 4pm

WHAT TO DO NOW

Email your Expression of Interest to Region Office sm.region@nsw.scouts.com.au

  • Subject Line – “Bushwalking Level 1 – (name) (Group code)
  • Body of email – your name, Group, appointment (cub leader, scout leader …), brief description of your current level of bushwalking, brief summary of your current bushwalking experience (last 2 years, scouting or non-scouting), any other information that would be relevant

We will email back to you after 23rd January with details.
